Evan Mkala
Evan oversees conservation and community engagement initiatives in a transboundary ecosystem spanning much of the Kenya–Tanzania border. Home to more than 19,200 elephants, this is one of Africa’s most critical conservation landscapes and a centerpiece for IFAW’s Room to Roam initiative, with more than 20 wildlife migration corridors and 100 proposed or active community wildlife conservancies.
An enthusiastic conservation education and awareness campaigner, Evan worked with the Maasai community in Amboseli to secure 54,000 acres of prime wildlife habitat from privately-owned land in Kitenden and Illaingurunyoni.
In his 30 years of commitment to conservation, Evan has worked with the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya, the Kenya Wildlife Trust, and IFAW.
