Trusted Flagger
IFAW France was designated as a Trusted Flagger in March 2025. This marked the first time in the European Union that a wildlife conservation organization received this status, enabling us to act more effectively against cybercriminals targeting protected wildlife.
Online platforms used by the criminals are since then legally bound to respond and prioritize content identified as illegal by IFAW. This status has been granted by the French Digital Services Coordinator, the Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication (ARCOM).
The Trusted Flagger mechanism is a component of the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA). A Trusted Flagger is an organization formally recognized by the relevant national authority as having particular expertise in identifying certain types of illegal content online—such as hate speech, terrorist content, or, in IFAW’s case, illegal wildlife trade—and reporting such content to online platforms.
