Abu Dhabi zoo’s festival raises wildlife awareness

Zoo Fest

Held under the theme of ‘Wildlife: Keep it Wild and Alive – Stop the Illegal Pet Trade!” the two-day Al Ain Zoo Conservation Festival was held to increase awareness of and knowledge about wildlife.

Al Ain Zoo staff, along with area volunteers and International Fund for Animal Welfare members, organized several activities, including treasure hunts for kids, quiz competitions, and skits such as “Remembering the Turtles.”

Children of different ages rushed to the stage to participate in a quiz that featured questions about animals, wildlife, the illegal animal and animal-product trade, and endangered species. While trying their level best to answer each question correctly, all the children succeeded at learning new information about wildlife. Many walked away with attractive prizes.

IFAW members enjoyed the chance to meet zoo visitors of diverse backgrounds and ages to discuss IFAW’s goals, work, and initiatives throughout the region and around the world.

We also appreciated meeting with representatives of The Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre – Education and Sustainability, with whom we will begin collaborating to heighten awareness about the value of wildlife by organizing awareness workshops for students of all ages.
