Bruce Sosola
Bruce Sosola is the Country Director for IFAW Malawi, with more than 20 years of experience in natural resources management across Africa. He specialises in community-based natural resource management (CBNRM), climate and conservation finance, project management, and landscape-level conservation, and has led high-impact biodiversity and climate initiatives throughout his career.
Prior to joining IFAW, Bruce spent nine years with USAID/Malawi as a Project Management Specialist for Climate Change and Biodiversity Conservation. He designed and managed major wildlife, fisheries, and forestry programmes, including the USFS–African Parks Technical Cooperation project supporting Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve and Liwonde National Park. He also strengthened national wildlife law enforcement and community engagement to combat poaching and illegal wildlife trade. As USAID’s Biodiversity Advisor and Climate Change Integration Lead, he promoted cross-sectoral approaches to conservation and resilience.
Bruce has also been a strong advocate for fisheries conservation in Lake Malawi, advancing efforts to address habitat loss and illegal fishing.
He holds an MSc in Management of Natural Resources and Sustainable Agriculture from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) and a BSc in Agricultural Engineering from LUANAR, Malawi.
