A lifeline for the Horn of Africa

In the heart of the Horn of Africa, spanning Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti, Eritrea, Uganda, and Kenya, countless rural communities face the relentless grip of severe drought. This dire situation threatens not only human lives but also the precious livestock that sustain these communities and has led to mass die-offs of wildlife. Imagine the struggle of securing water for your family and your animals, knowing they are the backbone of your livelihood. Lack of water is also pushing some wildlife closer to people, inciting inevitable conflict. We end up losing wildlife through retaliatory killing, or losing people when they are killed by wild animals.

Our mission

We are on a mission to change this reality. The "Water is Life" movement aims to bring clean, safe drinking water to these communities, ensuring that both people and animals can thrive even in the harshest conditions. By transporting water from reliable sources to the most affected areas, we can provide a lifeline to those in desperate need, promoting a healthy ecosystem where humans and animals coexist and thrive.

The impact

• Quench the thirst: Provide essential, clean drinking water for families and their animals, ensuring survival and health, while fostering a sustainable environment where both can flourish.
• Secure livelihoods: Preserve the vital livestock that these communities depend on, helping them rebuild and recover in a balanced ecosystem.

How we do it

• Drill and maintain wells: Construct new wells and rehabilitate existing ones to ensure a steady supply of water, supporting both people and animals in a sustainable manner.
• Transport water: Utilise water tankers to deliver clean water directly to communities and their livestock, fostering coexistence in a healthy ecosystem.
• Support recovery: Provide the resources needed to maintain essential water supplies, ensuring long-term sustainability for both humans and animals.

في قلب منطقة القرن الأفريقي، التي تشمل الصومال وإثيوبيا والسودان وجيبوتي وإريتريا وأوغندا وكينيا، تواجه العديد من المجتمعات الريفية مشكلة الجفاف الشديد المستمرة. هذا الوضع الخطير لا يهدد فقط حياة البشر، ولكنه يُهدد أيضًا الماشية الثمينة التي تعتمد عليها هذه المجتمعات ويتسبب بنفوق جماعي لكائنات الحياة البرية. تخيلوا معاناة تأمين الماء لعائلتكم ولحيواناتكم، مع العلم أنها تمثل عماد رزقكم. نقص المياه يدفع أيضًا بعض الحيوانات البرية إلى الاقتراب من البشر، وعندما يوجد الطرفان معًا في المنظر الطبيعي، يصبح الصراع والمواجهة أمرًا لا مفر منه. عندها قد نفقد الحيوانات البرية من جراء القتل الانتقامي، أو قد نفقد البشر عندما يُقتلون بواسطة الحيوانات البرية.

نحن في مهمة لتغيير هذا الواقع. تهدف حملة " المياه هي الحياة" إلى جلب مياه الشرب النظيفة والآمنة إلى هذه المجتمعات، لضمان أن يتمكن كل من البشر والحيوانات من الازدهار حتى في أشد الظروف. من خلال نقل المياه من مصادر موثوقة إلى المناطق الأكثر تضررًا، يمكننا توفير شريان الحياة لمن هم في حاجة ماسة لها، وتعزيز نظام بيئي صحي حيث يتعايش البشر والحيوانات ويزدهرون سوية.

التأثير

بفضل تبرعكم السخي، يمكننا:

• إرواء العطشى: توفير مياه الشرب النظيفة الأساسية للعائلات وحيواناتها، لضمان البقاء والصحة وتعزيز بيئة مستدامة يمكن أن تزدهر فيها الكائنات.
• تأمين سبل العيش: الحفاظ على الماشية الحيوية التي تعتمد عليها هذه المجتمعات، مما يساعدها على التعافي وإعادة البناء في نظام بيئي متوازن.
• منع الصراع بين الإنسان والحياة البرية: من خلال جلب الماء مباشرةً إلى المجتمع، نزيل الحاجة إلى مشي القرويين لمسافات طويلة لجلب الماء ومواجهة الحيوانات البرية.
• تمكين المجتمعات الضعيفة: تمكين السكان المحليين من التركيز على إعادة بناء حياتهم وضمان مستقبل أفضل، بدلاً من البحث المستمر عن الماء، وبناء علاقة متناغمة بين البشر والحيوانات.

• حفر وصيانة الآبار: بناء آبار جديدة وإعادة تأهيل الآبار القائمة لضمان إمداد مستدام بالماء، يدعم كل من البشر والحيوانات بطريقة مستدامة.
• نقل المياه: استخدام ناقلات المياه لتوصيل المياه النظيفة مباشرةً إلى المجتمعات وماشيتهم، مما يعزز التعايش في نظام بيئي صحي.
• دعم التعافي: توفير الموارد اللازمة للحفاظ على إمدادات المياه الأساسية، لضمان الاستدامة الطويلة الأمد لكل من البشر والحيوانات.
