never giving up: Syrian sanctuary receives support

Throughout our fifty years of work, IFAW has ensured that we respond to calls of rescue and cases were animals are suffering beyond borders, no matter where the call of help is coming from. Recently, a sanctuary in Syria reached out to us, struggling to care for the animals they have due to a shortage in supplies including food, vaccines, and medical equipment.

The House of Cats Ernesto started with one man feeding cats in the middle of civil war in Aleppo, Syria, and is now the only cat and animal sanctuary, in Syria since their original sanctuary in Aleppo had been destroyed due to the war. The sanctuary is home to over 800 cats, 25 dogs, vervet monkeys, horses, donkeys, wild birds, and domestic farm animals left behind or affected by the war.

IFAW responded to House of Cats Ernesto’s call of help to support them by purchasing the supplies they need such as antibiotics, parasite treatments, antiseptic, vaccines, dry food, and PPE gear for staff.

IFAW is proud to assist House of Cats Ernesto in their unwavering efforts to care for animals in an unpredictable climate. We thank the staff on the ground caring for these animals.
