protecting our ocean
The ocean's fate depends on the actions we take today.
The ocean is one of our greatest sources of life on earth and it must be protected. IFAW works with experts around the world to advance new solutions that help save marine animals and the ocean they call home.
marine mammal rescue and research
Cape Cod is one of the world’s busiest locations for dolphin and whale strandings. Luckily, our team is there to help. IFAW has pioneered field health assessments and treatments for stranded dolphins and whales that enable the animals to not only survive, but thrive after release. Since 1998, we’ve increased our dolphin release rates from 15% to more than 79%. Today, IFAW is a leading expert resource in rescuing stranded and entangled marine animals. We share our knowledge with other professionals around the world and together, we’re developing a global stranding network that can help protect marine animals everywhere.
mitigating ocean noise pollution
Marine animals rely on sound to navigate the ocean, but ocean noise pollution is threatening life under the water. Man-made noise from shipping, industrial activity, and military sonar creates a maze of sound that prevents marine animals from communicating, hunting, and finding mates. Produced by NRDC and Imaginary Forces in association with IFAW, the Emmy-award winning documentary Sonic Sea explores the dangers of ocean noise pollution and highlights our responsibility to turn down the volume.
