Song of the Whale: Research to Protect Whales Fact Sheet

The Song of the Whale, IFAW’s research vessel, is designed to carry out noninvasive research to inform conservation, using acoustic detection systems, video-range tracking and photo-identification.
It is a purpose-designed, sailing research vessel, with a host of special features to decrease noise levels, including vibration-dampening engine mounts, a five-bladed propeller of a design similar to that of a silent-running submarine and state-of-the-art exhaust systems.
