When man-made or natural disasters strike and animals are left vulnerable, IFAW moves to help. Our animal rescue team is on the ground after earthquakes, fires, floods, tsunamis, hurricanes and oil spills , rescuing animals in distress.

In all, we have helped more than 200,000 animals in some of the world’s worst disasters, including the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2008 earthquake in China and 2005 Hurricane Katrina in the United States.

By working with local communities, governments and animal rescue groups during and after disasters we are able to establish effective animal rescue plans, train local responders, and improve the welfare of animals in the impacted regions for the long term.
