Peter Pueschel

Work

Peter is Programme Director focusing on IFAW’s policy work at international conventions, Head of IFAW’s Tiger Programme and also serves in an advisory role on our ending ivory trade campaign. Previously, Peter led the development of the Wildlife Trade Programme at IFAW and served as regional campaign leader within the European Union. With a strong background in campaigning, he has long been active in work with international conventions addressing a variety of wildlife and environmental issues.

Under Peter’s leadership, IFAW has been instrumental in increasing international protection for many wildlife species including several shark species, seahorses, turtles and tortoises, whales, elephants and tigers. He is active in the fight to end wildlife trade over the Internet and had an important role in the eBay ivory trade ban campaign. Peter is a regular contributor to IFAW publications.

Peter has addressed the EU Parliamentary Intergroups and the EU Commission, the US Congress and the INTERPOL Environmental and Wildlife Crime Working Group. He has been a regular IFAW representative at conferences of the most relevant international conventions for many years, such as the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES),  the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the Global Tiger Forum (GTF), the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD),  the International Whaling Commission (IWC) or the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
