Spotlight Dubai: wildlife awareness featured in UAE's 41st National Day celebrations
As a strategic partner with the Architectural Heritage Department Dubai Municipality, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) was honoured to participate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) celebrations of the 41st National day, December 2nd.
Think Twice/Wildlife Crime and Consumer Awareness was held during the celebrations that took place from November 27-29, 2012.
The event enabled IFAW to reach more than 3000 local participants and educate them about the importance of wildlife to their national heritage.
On the first day of the event, the IFAW office in Alshandagha heritage area was festively decorated with the UAE flag and ready to welcome guests including Eng. Rashad Bukhash, federal parliament member, and head of the Architectural Heritage Department, and Eng. Abdallah Rafeea, Assistant General Manager of Dubai Municipality.
An exhibition of confiscated items was on display in the IFAW indoor gallery for the visiting officials and other guests including students from two schools. Eng. Bukhash asked about our new causes and commended IFAW's ongoing efforts.
On the second day of the event, hundreds of students enjoyed Animal Action Education activities and materials provided by IFAW.
The third day of the event was held in the main hall at Dubai municipality where we had the opportunity conduct a Q & A session with almost 3000 employees.
We listened to their concerns and spoke with them about the importance of keeping wildlife in the wild, and IFAW’s efforts to stop the problem of people keeping exotic pets.
