As bushfires burn large parts of South-Eastern Australia, our team stands ready

Devastating bushfires are burning across large parts of South-Eastern Australia, with homes destroyed in Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare office in Australia is monitoring the situation and is in contact with local wildlife groups and emergency services in affected areas. IFAW has experienced vets on standby to help assist animals where needed.

Many fires are still burning out of control and the fire service isn’t yet allowing access to affected areas.

These fires threaten people, their homes, businesses and also livestock, pets and wildlife. Wild animals are often the unseen and unaccountable victims of these disasters.

It’s not just injuries that make wildlife vulnerable during a bushfire, but also the after effects - reduced food and shelter are life threatening.

If you find an injured animal, it should be treated by a local carer or vet immediately so please contact a professional for advice.
