Ein kanadischer Robbenjäger mit seinem Fang. c. IFAW/S. Fink

All around Australia oil and gas companies are closing in on vital whale habitats. Any day now leases covering endangered blue whale habitat and right next to calving grounds for endangered southern right whales will be handed over to oil and gas companies to explore with their deafening seismic airguns and accompanying vessels. Bidding closes today for another adjacent lease area over blue whale feeding habitat and next month another blue whale feeding ground in the same Bonney Upwelling area will be up for grabs for petroleum exploration.

Spotlight Africa: A close shave with spear heads for a Kenyan jumbo

The Kenya Wildlife Service and the International Fund for Animal Welfare recently collared nine elephants to track their movements that will assist in mapping out elephant migratory corridors and equip the park's management to mitigate human-elephant conflict and mount security operations against poachers. By chance, one of the elephants was found with two spearheads embedded in its body--a case of either conflict with humans or poaching.

Dozer the dog LOVES to cuddle.Sometimes you are just so unaware of your size and energy level that you don’t notice the affect you have on others.  That might be a good introduction to Dozer.  Or should I say, that might be a good example of Dozer’s excited introduction style.   He just loves life and he is looking for someone to love him in an equally big way.  Is it you…?

There is a big difference between a tender cut of loin and a lion

There is a big difference between a tender cut of loin and a lionMuch to my surprise and of others concerned with the fate of imperiled African lions, this species has been popping up on menus across the country, as well as on various exotic meat websites.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) condemns the decision by the Canadian province of Newfoundland to provide €2.7 million in bailout money to a Norwegian company in order to stockpile seal pelts. The animal welfare group says that using Newfoundland tax dollars to keep the seal hunt on life support is wasteful and misguided.
