Yarmouth Port, MA
IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare - is proud to announce that the Municipality of Dubai has granted IFAW registration as an officially recognized NGO in the U.A.E. and generously donated office space for two years. The signing ceremony took place on April 3, with the official opening to occur at a later date. The new office in Dubai will be IFAW's 16th around the globe.
Dubai is a major regional and global travel and commercial hub that offers IFAW the opportunity to reach a large and diverse audience with its awareness building and educational programs. Further, the U.A.E.’s regional and global leadership on wildlife issues complements the work that IFAW is doing to protect threatened wildlife and habitats.  IFAW has a productive relationship with the U.A.E. Ministry of Environment through their work on wildlife enforcement trainings.
The office will be a regional office for the Middle East. IFAW’s work in the region currently centers on cooperation with the host governments in conducting wildlife trade law enforcement trainings and capacity building programs and through IFAW’s co-sponsorship with Jordan and Kuwait of Animal Action Week.  To date, wildlife enforcement trainings have been held in Jordan (February 2006), Syria (May 2006), Kuwait (March 2006), Yemen (November 2006), and Libya (February 2007).
IFAW’s three priority program areas in the region will be expanding wildlife enforcement trainings throughout the region, expanding its Animal Action Week programming and launching the Think Twice! Campaign. Think Twice! is an IFAW public awareness campaign aimed at educating tourists and consumers on the impact of their purchases and protecting wildlife from endangerment due to over-consumption and unsustainable trade.
IFAW will also continue to provide technical advice to the Arab League Group of Experts on Desertification and Biodiversity.
