Cats, Dogs, and Us Special Schools Edition
New lesson plans on cats and dogs for special school students aged 2-19!
Cats and dogs are great friends to our students and through this resource you’ll be able to teach your students how to return that friendship. In learning about cats and dogs your students will also learn things useful to their own lives, such as how we express emotions and what we need to be happy and healthy.
The resource includes a colourful magazine and lesson plans focusing on different areas of the curriculum (including drama, citizenship, literacy, PE, PSHE and science). The materials are suitable for students who access their learning in a purely sensory way and those achieving at a level equivalent to their mainstream peers.
Additional supplementary resources and activities include songs about cats and dogs, animal sensory experiences you can explore with your students, symbols to support communication, role-play activities and suggestions for a public performance based on students’ learning.

This is Noah and his dog Maisie: Maisie is determined to play fetch with her friend, who was born with a rare genetic disease – she puts the ball down right by Noah’s hand ready to play. You can read more about the relationships between animals and children in our Cats, Dogs and Us Special Schools student magazine.
