Chimp takes to the street for round two

CJ the chimpanzee is back for round two.  Last Saturday, CJ was found wandering through a Las Vegas neighborhood.  This is the second time in a month the chimpanzee has successfully escaped her backyard enclosure to roam at large.

It's official in the UAE: no more wild animal imports

The United Arab of Emirates’s Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) has announced a new regulation on importing wild animals.

What it means is that no more permits will be issued for personal or commercial use. The new procedure excludes wildlife breeding centres, universities, zoos and government agencies.

“The procedure existing ensures public health and safety and protects people and animals from communicable diseases or epidemics threats.’’ said Saif Al-Shara, Assistant Undersecretary for Livestock and Agriculture Affairs at the MoEW,

Naar aanleiding van informatie van het IFAW over de welig tierende illegale ivoorhandel op de markten in China, heeft de Chinese politie op 6 augustus een onverwachte, onaangekondigde controle uitgevoerd in een antiekcentrum buiten Beijing. Agenten troffen bij de actie 107 illegale ivoren voorwerpen en andere producten van wilde dieren aan, en arresteerden drie verdachten.

Schlag gegen illegalen Elfenbeinhandel in China

Aufgrund von Informationen, die der IFAW über den illegalen Elfenbeinhandel in China zusammengetragen hat, führte die chinesische Forstpolizei am 6. August in einem Antiquitätenmarkt bei Peking eine unangekündigte Kontrolle durch. Die Polizei stellte 107 illegale Elfenbeingegenstände und andere Wildtierprodukte sicher und nahm drei Verdächtige fest.
