The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), working alongside the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), has started a vaccination campaign for Typhoon-stricken animals in Leyte and Samar islands.

A team composed of  IFAW and PAWS veterinarians, emergency responders and volunteers returned today to Tacloban. The animal rescuers are carrying anti-rabies vaccines, injectable vitamins, and antibiotics for close to 500 dogs, cats, and livestock. This is the first of several campaigns scheduled for the weeks ahead.

WATCH: Rapid assessment in Philippines leads to continuation of animal rescue operations

Mon, 11/18/2013

We're back in Tacloban to continue our animal rescue operations.

I'm now joined by two veterinarians and an emergency responder from our partner group, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

In the next few days, our goal is to vaccinate close to 500 dogs and cats against rabies which is quite prevalent in the Philippines, and also administer injectable vitamins for companion and farm animals and hand out pet food.

The European Union’s 7th Environmental Action Plan, also known as a General Union Environment Action Programme to 2020, was approved today by the EU Council. The theme of the plan is ‘living well, within the limits of our planet’. An admirable statement that is easier said than done.
