I Found A Way to help animals

Sat, 05/11/2013

This year, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) Australia celebrates 30 years of finding ways to help rescue and protect animals. We’ve always been a hands-on organisation with a practical approach and a ‘roll up your sleeves’ team of people to get the job done.

So it is with great excitement and pride that we’ve launched a campaign here in Australia, one that not only showcases IFAW’s work, but also celebrates the potential we all have together to make a very real difference to individual animals, vulnerable species and their habitats.

The Economics of Japanese Whaling

Official government of Japan statistics, Japanese press clippings, and public opinion polling in Japan show conclusively that the claim that Japanese commercial whaling is a cultural and nutritional necessity is a lie. Commercial whaling in Japan is an industry that is not profitable, that is able to exist only because of taxpayer subsidies, and that provides a product catering increasingly to a shrinking and ageing market.

First fin whale harpooned in Iceland for three years is brought ashore to protes

A lone whaler has resumed the cruel practice of harpooning endangered fin whales in Iceland after a three-year hiatus.

Two of Kristjan Loftsson’s boats left port in Reykjavik on Sunday evening and one has now arrived at his whaling station in Hvalfjordur with the first harpooned fin whale of the season strapped to its side. The arrival was marked with a protest by around 40 people, most of them Icelanders.
