Animal Action Week

For more than 15 years, Animal Action Week has been giving young people around the world the knowledge and tools they need to take positive action on behalf of animals and our shared environment.

Teachers: Get your class involved and you could win an excursion with IFAW and Earthwatch to help save sea turtles.

Organized by IFAW the initiative reaches some six million young people in 16 countries, empowering the next generation of conservationists to protect animals and the environment around the globe.

The Week, which takes place annually during the first week of October, marks the launch of an international educational program with a different animal welfare and conservation theme each year.

Get your school or youth group to join in with our FREE education pack and 15-minute film all about protecting wildlife in the oceans. The curriculum-based materials are available in two versions, one for elementary students (Grades 3-4) and one for middle school (Grades 5-9).

Beneath the Waves: Protecting Marine Wildlife

Download teachers guide, student activity sheets and other free resources, including a DVD video.

You can also sign up to receive the Animal Action education packs as they are released each fall.

Few things are more spectacular than the world that lies beneath the waves. That watery world boasts everything from microscopic life forms to the largest animals on our planet. Sadly our oceans and the animals they contain are under more threat than ever before.

These threats come in a variety of forms: hunting, over-fishing, pollution, global warming and more. The future rests in our hands. Do we hunt animals to extinction? Do we change our life styles to help prevent climate change? Do we stop polluting our oceans? Put simply, what we do matters a great deal. Join Animal Action Week to take action to protect marine wildlife!

Take the Pledge!
Plastic accounts for nearly 90% of the waste in the ocean. You can help combat the plastic plague, a major threat to marine wildlife, by pledging to the 4 R’s: Refuse, Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. Don’t be part of the plastic plague that threatens the ocean and the animals beneath the waves. Watch this video and then send us your pledge and we’ll send you an eco-friendly fabric shopping bag.

Pick Up! Protect Marine Wildlife
Join our global effort to clean up public spaces including beaches, riverbanks, parks, city streets and open spaces. Plastic and other rubbish from far inland end up in the ocean, threatening the health of this vital ecosystem and all the animals that live there. Send us your data-sheet and a photo of your team in action and we’ll send you eco-friendly fabric shopping bags for everyone who took part.

S.O.S for Whales
Learn how you can help protect this awesome species and join our whale adoption program to create an enduring connection with a real whale beneath the waves.
