The International Fund for Animal Welfare Marine Mammal Rescue and Research team here at IFAW has been busy with strandings and with the data we are generating from this winter’s HUGE common dolphin stranding event.

"Life [is] like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Forrest Gump famously said in the eponymous movie. And ever since the elephant massacre began in Cameroon last January, his words have made particular sense to me.

I never imagined, back in April 2004 as I put the finishing touches to my master's thesis on the draft European constitution, that 8 years later I would find myself at the heart of the European Parliament speaking to MEPs.

Auf der ganzen Welt werden Hunde und Katzen vergiftet, geschlagen, vernachlässigt oder anderweitig misshandelt, weil es „zu viele“ von ihnen gibt. Für die Lösung des Problems sind ein paar Herangehensweisen gang und gäbe. Tötungen oder Sterilisierungen sind beispielsweise gängige Methoden, um die Anzahl der Hunde und Katzen zu reduzieren.
