Orphaned Grizzly Bears Released into the Wild

"The long term goal of this pilot project is to help develop standards and protocols for grizzly bear rehabilitation that can be replicated in other provinces, territories and possibly states", said IFAW campaigner Kim Elmslie, "This project can revolutionize the way we rehabilitate and reintroduce grizzly bears into the wild."

The bear cubs, nicknamed Suzy and Johnny are both a year and a half old, and were rehabilitated at the NLWS center in Smithers, British Columbia. Suzy was orphaned in June 2007 after her mother was killed by a poacher.

Midwest Animal Rescue Operation Ends in Success, 69 Pigs Brought to Safety

"This rescue operation could not have been completed without the help of each individual on the ground representing these four organizations, as well as local law enforcement, the state department of agriculture and emergency responders who worked in tandem to make this rescue a success,” said Dick Green, Disaster Relief Manager for IFAW.
 
The rescue team was comprised of approximately 25 people working 16-18 hour days during a course of nearly three weeks.

New report charts massive growth of whale watch industry in Latin America

According to a new report from WDCS, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and Global Ocean, Latin America will host more than one million whale watch customers this year, if the current strong growth in the industry continues.

Receding flood waters threaten hog rescue operation in Midwest

International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW – www.ifaw.org), American Humane Association (www.americanhumane.org), Farm Sanctuary (www.farmsanctuary.org) and Animal Rescue League of Boston (www.arlboston.org) landed in Illinois one week ago to assist with animal flood victims but were later called on by the State of Iowa to assist with the stranded hogs.
