WHAT: EU Environment Ministers are invited to receive a free Polar Bear Christmas decoration from IFAW activists in polar bear costumes.

WHERE: In front of the EU Council building

WHEN: 9:30 – 10:00 Monday,  Dec. 17th before the EU Environment Council Meeting

WHO: EU Environment Ministers and placard-carrying IFAW supporters in Polar Bear costumes

WHY: The EU will decide whether the international trade in polar bears products should continue or be stopped

Background: The trade in polar bear parts is a significant threat to the survival of polar bears. The US and Russia propose to increase the level of protection polar bears receive under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). Canada opposes this proposal. As a 27 vote bloc at CITES the EU will decide whether or not the proposal is successful.
