Arien van der Heijden
In her current role as National Director, Arien is the point person for all organizational and supporter relations matters in The Netherlands.
Arien joined IFAW in 1992, beginning as a part-time administrator in the Supporter Relations department, when IFAW was a small organization in The Netherlands working out of the office manager’s home. Speaking with IFAW supporters day in and day out for nearly ten years has given Arien a strong grounding in IFAW’s campaigns and projects, as well as a thorough understanding of the motivations and concerns of supporters who make IFAW’s animal welfare work possible.
In 2001, Arien was promoted to Supporter Relations Manager, and in 2011 she moved into her present role as Country Office Representative. Although Arien maintains a deep commitment to thorough and timely communications with IFAW supporters, her new position has given her greater insight and involvement in what IFAW is achieving for animal welfare around the world.
It is a great pleasure for Arien to work with the Netherlands office campaign staff who recently achieved a Dutch ban on the import of seal products from the Canadian commercial seal hunt in advance of an EU-wide ban on those seals products which was passed in 2009.
