He was found this spring severely underweight after being orphaned prior to hibernation last fall. After being cared for by the Northern Lights Wildlife Society (NLWS, <a href="http://www.wildlifeshelter.com">www.wildlifeshelter.com</a>) since June, Littlefoot has gone from a scrawny 28 pounds to a hearty 98 pounds. He was released yesterday away from human activity near where he was found. Littlefoot has been fitted with a satellite collar and will be monitored for the next 18 months.</p> </div><p><a href="http://www.ifaw.org/canada/news/rescued-yearling-grizzly-cub-returns-wild-near-cranbrook-bc-pilot-project" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Animal rescue Bears bears British Columbia Ministries of Enviroment Forest Grizzly bear Lands and Natural Resource Operations Northern Lights Wildlife Society orphan bears Mon, 25 Aug 2014 16:40:06 +0000 adintino 101199 at http://www.ifaw.org Chartered flight brings rescued baby elephant “Ntubya” to Zambia orphanage http://www.ifaw.org/canada/news/chartered-flight-brings-rescued-baby-elephant-%E2%80%9Cntubya%E2%80%9D-zambia-orphanage <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/canada/about-us/elephants/sarah-davies">Sarah Davies</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Mon, 08/18/2014</span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="node-body"><p><img alt="&quot;Ntubya&quot; being fed in her travel crate as she arrives at Lilayi Elephant Nursery." class="caption" src="http://d2mlnkprj9wd81.cloudfront.net/sites/default/files/wordpress/Ntubya_feeding_crate_web.jpg" style="width: 610px; height: 484px;" title="&quot;Ntubya&quot; being fed in her travel crate as she arrives at Lilayi Elephant Nursery." />Last Wednesday, an 18-month-old elephant calf, named &ldquo;Ntubya&rdquo; after the village in which she was rescued, safely arrived safely at the Lilayi Elephant Nursery.</p> </div><p><a href="http://www.ifaw.org/canada/news/chartered-flight-brings-rescued-baby-elephant-%E2%80%9Cntubya%E2%80%9D-zambia-orphanage" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Elephants Animal rescue Africa calf elephant orphan orphanage rehabilitation rescue Zambia Mon, 18 Aug 2014 16:19:22 +0000 Sarah Davies 101166 at http://www.ifaw.org Spotlight Zambia: milestone event in 9 year old orphaned elephant Chodoba's life http://www.ifaw.org/canada/news/spotlight-zambia-milestone-event <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/canada/about-us/elephants/sarah-davies">Sarah Davies</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Thu, 08/14/2014</span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="node-body"><p>A milestone event was witnessed at Kafue National Park in Zambia last month.</p> <p>The 9-year-old rehabilitated orphaned elephant named Chodoba, one of the Elephant Orphanage Project herd, was seen socialising with wild elephants near a waterhole named Chintumba Pool, which is situated close to Camp Phoenix.</p> <p>Wild elephants frequent this area at night, but we were lucky enough to capture this encounter in the late afternoon light.</p> </div><p><a href="http://www.ifaw.org/canada/news/spotlight-zambia-milestone-event" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Elephants Animal rescue Elephants Africa elephant GRI orphanage partnership Zambia Wed, 13 Aug 2014 17:57:10 +0000 Sarah Davies 101117 at http://www.ifaw.org Partners still responding to drought in Pakistan http://www.ifaw.org/canada/news/partners-still-responding-drought-pakistan <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-author"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/canada/about-us/cats-and-dogs/gail-a%E2%80%99brunzo">Gail A’Brunzo</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-date field-field-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Thu, 07/31/2014</span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="node-body"><p><img alt="A young villager helps hold the family sheep receiving treatment for drought-related illness.
