Three Northern Dogs with lots to be thankful For

Benny. My Thanksgiving table is going to be full this year - especially underneath it.

Vying for fallen bits of dinner will be my own four dogs, and three very thankful dogs from up North.

Two of these are eight-week-old pups who were left over from a litter of four.  These two girls came to IFAW’s attention when a community contact called to ask for help.

Fox’s "Bones" echoes need to end private possession of big cats

A recent episode of Fox’s hit series BONES follows a farmer’s decision to purchase a tiger, which ultimately leads to the mauling and death of an innocent bystander.  After the accident, the tiger is killed to prevent further human fatality and injury.  This episode serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of private big cat ownership, both for the animal and owner. In this case it is fiction, but we know that far too often the reality is just as grim if not worse.

Calling for the conservation of sharks in the Arabian region

Some Shark species are in danger and face the threat of extinction because of they are being killed for their fins. Shark fins are used to make shark fin soup, a delicacy in Far East that is often served at special occasions.

Global studies estimate that every year more than 70 million of sharks are being killed just for their fins.

When I asked Dr. Ralf Sonntag, Director of the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Germany Office about the situation, he told me:
