Charlie Cougar’s Big Day Exotic Pet Escapes Cage; Roams Community For 2 Hours
A 10-month old cougar escaped from its cage and wandered around a neighborhood for a couple hours. Multiple neighbors reported the cat in their backyard. The cougar's owner retrieved the cat and was charged under a new county law relating to exotic pets.
A woman was attacked by an escaped black panther while she was talking on the phone in the kitchen of her mobile home. The woman hit the big cat on the head with a broom before it slashed her leg and arm. She recovered from her wounds after a brief period in the hospital.
On October 10, 2001, a 3-year-old boy was attacked by one of his step grandfather's tiger while taking a picture with it. The step grandfather was holding the boy when the tiger took one of his cowboy boot in his mouth and the grandfather pulled back. The tiger than ran with the boy clamped in her mouth, and the boy died when his head hit a metal pipe.
Deputies shot and killed a 350-pound lioness that escaped from a wild animal sanctuary. One of the lion's handlers attempted to first tranquilize the lioness; however, after being shot with a tranquilizer, the big cat charged the handler and knocked her to the ground before running off.
