Beijing Dog Rescue: Xiaxia
For four years, Xiaxia lived with an illegal dog breeder. Common among breeders, puppies are carefully cared for but older dogs are neglected. Selling puppies is how they make their money. To save money, the breeder often sent Xiaxia and other dogs to nearby trash bins to look for food. Xaixia lived a miserable life at the breeding center. One day, the breeder and his wife got into a quarrel because the breeder wanted to show his wife how tough he was. He caught Xiaxia and clipped one ear off with scissors. Neighbors were obviously offended by this activity and soon BHAEEC volunteers became aware and wanted to confront the breeder. In a furious rage, the breeder tied Xiaxia on a tree and threatened that he would kill anyone who came close. He threatened to starve Xiaxia to death. The volunteers asked the staff at BHAEEC for help. When Ms. Zhang Lvping was informed, she decided to end the sufferings of Xiaxia. Not only was Xiaxia rescued but three puppies were rescued as well. When Xiaxia arrived at the shelter, his condition was very bad. He was weak and his wounds were infected. After a long recovery, Xiaxia is now much healthier and happier. The terrible experience didn’t affect his trust in people; Xiaxia still welcomes everyone with a wagging tail.
