Dog's Hero Placed Behind Bars

UPDATE: Another success! California bans lengthy dog tethering, making it illegal to tether your dog for longer than 3 hours.

UPDATE: Tammy Sneath Grimes appeared before a judge on September 21. She will face a jury trial on charges that she stole Doggie from his owners.

Doogie_wm_1 Check out “She’s not afraid of a dog fight”, just one of several press releases yesterday that captures a most unique story: A woman overwhelmed with sadness at the sight of seeing a dog nearly dead and chained to the ground in the backyard of an empty house, she removes the chain and immediately takes the suffering dog to the veterinary clinic. The following day, criminal charges are filed against Mrs. Grimes, the so-called culprit, and she is arrested for theft of property.

Where should the line be drawn between reaching out to assist an animal suffering from cruelty and the notion of pets as personal 'property'?

That’s just a snapshot of the entire story. AAFL captures the story well and informs us that indeed the humane society was contacted, neighbors waited for days for some assistance but to no avail, and that not a single action was taken against the owners who abandoned and mistreated their dog, now being called ‘Doogie’. Before rescuing Doogie, Grimes took video of Doogie trying to get up to greet her. You can see the dog's pain and hurt, but also his will to live in this video.

Lancaster News quoted Mrs. Grimes as stating that the results of the vet examination determined that the dog was malnourished, suffering from bone spurs and a large mass near his hip. Prior to visiting the veterinary clinic, Doogie was unable to walk despite much effort to try. Following treatment and a comfortable night inside with a loving caregiver, Doogie was once again able to walk. Hopes for his recovery are now dimming as Mrs. Grimes was arrested and Doogie may be returned to his owners and the chain in the backyard.

There are so many dogs suffering, malnourished and living in unhealthy conditions in the US, many of which go unnoticed. These animals, often abused and chained, unfortunately waste away until death removes them from their misery. Doogie is one of hundreds of animals lucky enough to be noticed. I encourage you to support Grimes in her legal battle and continue the fight for improving state legislation that would rid of this cruelty.

This type of story is just ridiculous. She SAVED the dog, and then she gets charges filed against her? The dog's owners should be locked up instead!

I too have a situation such as Tammi Grimes and have called all the different authorities that have come to mind. I read the artical and have decided that maybe I shouldn't let the dogs out!!
One large dog and a puppy are in a pen 8x8 no shelter (we had 3 feet of snow and below freezing weather, and a wind/rain storm of 80 mile an hour winds) no food or water. The occupants of the house have moved 2 weeks ago. What to do?? Glad I read about Tammi or I could be facing the same thing. We have been going over and putting food in the cage and water. Thats all we can do. Who do I call???

Once again i have not failed to be shocked by the suffering caused to yet another innocent animal, my only conclusion to this type of treatment by humans is that they have serious problems themselves or their is real evil inside of them!
All my support is behind this rescuer who should not be being put through this punishment for an act of genuine kindness.

I hope very soon the law will punish people who injures animals. They are like babies, they are not able to speak or to defend themselves. It is too simple for violent people to do something to weak ..... I am very shocked every time i see images like this...

What the hell is wrong with these people!! They should be made to suffer the same pain as they inflict on these poor animals. Watching this video broke my heart. I have a beautiful Border Collie and I will do everything in my power to give him a happy life. He gives me unconditional love and he makes me smile whenever I see him. I hate any form of cruelty and these evil people should never be allowed to own a pet for the rest of their lives.

People whom inflict such horror on animals should be subject to the same treatment. Animals give unconditioanl love and devotion but a human has no unconditional love to give to the animal. Now, we wonder why this world is close to implosion, wonder no more just take a good look at your fellow man

Realy why why...why do some poeple go to a pet store a breeder or some other place pick up a dog that loves and trusts you and you neglect it and ignore it they cant fend for themselves i you treat them like a house dog. If you have a pet treat it with the resperct you would like ot be treated with animals have emotions. Ok so a dog injured and neglected trying to be saved and imt he process the Savior of this dog gets arrested?!?!What kind of laws are there there insane Treat Animals With Respect!
