IFAW campaigning for the Universal Declaration for Animal Welfare
It is shocking to consider that even now there is no global, intergovernmental recognition of the importance of animal welfare legislation. IFAW believes this must change, which is why we support the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW). The adoption of this formal declaration at the UN General Assembly would establish animal welfare on the global political agenda.
The declaration process was originally launched by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) in 2000. IFAW is part of the UDAW steering committee and is collaborating with other animal organisations in support of the Declaration.
The Declaration is an important way for governments to express their commitment to protecting animal welfare and is a vital springboard to changes in international and national policies and animal legislation. It would help strengthen enforcement of animal welfare measures and promote humane treatment of animals in every corner of the world.

As a lawyer involved with the media,I know that all animal abuses are publicised widely all over the world in the media and internet.Millions of people who see these reports care deeply about animal welfare and do not want to visit or trade with countries where animal abuse takes place and where a government takes no action to stop it.Tourist corporations now advise people about animal cruelty in countries. There is also clear evidence that people who treat animals in a brutal way are a serious danger to other people, especially children.
We are in the 21st century and it shames the United Nations that such horrific abuses to animals still takes place, for commercial reasons, for primitive superstitious religious or health reasons, or because of sick people who enjoy torturing animals.Governments who allow their people to torture animals in the name of religious superstition (eg Nepal allow people to rip apart a goat in a festival every August) are sickening to decent people.
Millions look to the UN to take proper action now, and we must all pressurise them to do so from now on.
.
Help the helpless.
The more you hurt God's creatures, the more you hurt Mankind! Keep it up Mankind, and it will be a painful fall from Grace!
Compassion is the capacity for feeling
What it’s like to live inside someone else’s skin;
And it’s the knowledge that there can never be
Any peace and joy for me,
Until there is peace and joy for you, too.”
Frederick Buechner
This planet belongs to every living thing on it.......humans are the most destructive creatures on the planet and the way things are going, we will self-destruct and take everything else with us.
The world needs to protect animals and children and all that is innocent in this world.
It is sad that society globally neglects to teach to do what is right and good and to have respect and appreciation as a basic principla that can be applied to anything we encounter in life.
The only way it is taught and possibly upheld is if it HAS to be into LAW and paper format.
Animals need respect, care and protection from abuses, and although alot of people need to use them for food, and use of their body parts for other reasons other than profit; consumerism has made us all blind and neglectful to human and animal rights. There has to be a universal agreement because human kind has left terrible scars on this earth, in nature and on each other and the cycle of violence and neglect continues.
Animals do not have a voice or signature to put fourth into this petition, that is why i signed it, and wish others to sign if they have any interest in the animal kingdom.
Compassion is a basis of healthy society, growth and cooperation. We should acknowledge the rights of every sentient being, big or small. There is no compassion when our care is narrow. Mistreatment of animals should not happen in a civilized country. I think it's very important to secure the right to live and be happy. Not only for humans, but for animal friends as well.
theres nothing to think about and no petition needed
Animals need protection from the abuse that is caused to them, help these poor creatures sign the petition thanks john b
