Matt Collis

Policy & Campaigns Manager, IFAW Oceania

Matt Collis is the Policy & Campaigns Manager in the International Fund for Animal Welfare Sydney office. Matt has worked for IFAW since 2005, spending six years in the London office, working across all of IFAW’s campaigns and leading IFAW’s relations with the UK government, before moving to Sydney in 2011. Matt’s work in the Oceania office has focused on protecting the whales that come to our region and the wonderful and unique animals, such as koalas, wombats and kangaroos that call Australia home. Whether it is Japanese whaling ships in the Southern Ocean, oil exploration in Australian waters, shipping in New Zealand or inappropriate developments in koala habitat, Matt uses his political knowledge and campaigning skills to protect wildlife.  Matt has appeared before Australian Senate inquiries, presented at parliamentary briefings and legal seminars and is a regular commentator in Australian media on wildlife issues. Matt has been invited as an adviser onto the Australian government delegation to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and the International Whaling Commission (IWC) as well as attending these conventions as part of IFAW’s delegation.
