Publication Date:
Wed, 09/10/2008

IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare - www.ifaw.org ) played a vital role in safeguarding the lives of more than 1,300 animals as a mandatory evacuation set the stage for a massive exodus of both people and their pets.

Penguin stranding mystery in Brazil prompts rescue attempt

Publication Date:
Thu, 08/07/2008
‘This event appears to be a natural occurrence and has been seen 2 or 3 times in the last 20 years, resulting in the death of thousands of birds. What really took us by surprise this time is the huge increase in numbers’, said Valeria Ruoppolo of IFAW.

The Magellanic penguins (Spheniscus magellanicus) breed in large colonies in southern Argentina and Chile and migrate north as far as Southwest Brazil between March and September.

Nach dem Sommer kommt für EU-Beamte „La Rentrée“

Thu, 09/15/2011

Faule Nashorn-Diebe machen weltweit leichte Beute in Museen

Tue, 08/23/2011

Whaling Meeting Closes-Future Uncertain For Whales and Commission

Publication Date:
Fri, 06/27/2008
“The Commission is trying to chart a course for the future while ignoring ongoing whaling by just three member countries,” said Patrick Ramage, IFAW Global Whale Program Director. “Whale conservation measures were put on ice at this meeting.  If Japan, Norway and Iceland are serious about compromise, they should prove it by suspending their ongoing whaling.”

This week’s meeting focused mainly on the future of the commission, with only brief flashes of conflict between pro-whaling and conservation-minded countries.
