From small insects to the largest animals on the planet, our world is made up of the sounds of these creatures living and communicating with one another.&nbsp;&nbsp; This is even more apparent deep down in the darkness of the sea, where whales and other marine life depend on sound to mate, find food, migrate, raise their young and defend against predators. Yet, their symphony of life is being disrupted by the industrialized noise that has become commonplace in our oceans today&mdash;with tragic and deadly costs.</p> </div><p><a href="http://www.ifaw.org/international/news/discovery-air-nrdc-ifaw-ocean-noise-film" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Whales Whales NRDC Sonic Sea Mon, 02 May 2016 20:41:17 +0000 slajoie 107452 at http://www.ifaw.org Minke whaling season due to begin in Iceland http://www.ifaw.org/international/news/minke-whaling-season-due-begin-iceland <div class="field field-type-date field-field-date"> <div class="field-label">Publication Date:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Tue, 04/26/2016</span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-optional"> <div class="field-label">Image:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_optional" width="300" height="176" title="Minke whaling season due to begin in Iceland" alt="Minke whaling season due to begin in Iceland" src="http://d2mlnkprj9wd81.cloudfront.net/sites/default/files/Minke_Nose12a_Sunna_300px_4.jpg?1461604976" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="node-body"><p>Minke whaling season is expected to start imminently in Iceland with whaling boats already on the move.</p> <p>So far, Iceland&rsquo;s self-allocated kill quota for minkes this season has not been announced.
