Marine Campaigns Manager, IFAW Oceania

Matt Collis is the Marine Campaigns Manager in the International Fund for Animal Welfare Oceania office.

Matt has worked for IFAW since 2005, spending six years in the London office, working across all of IFAW’s campaigns and leading IFAW’s relations with the UK government, before moving to Sydney in 2011.

Matt’s work in Oceania office has focused on Japanese whaling in the Southern Ocean, protecting whale habitats in Australia and preventing ship strikes of whales in New Zealand. Matt has appeared before Australian Senate inquiries, presented findings on Japanese whaling to the Australian Parliament, and been a panel member on an Australian National University legal seminar about Australia’s International Court of Justice case against Japanese whaling in the Antarctic.

Matt is also a regular commentator in Australian media on all things whales. Matt has attended the International Whaling Commission as part of the IFAW delegation and was also invited onto the Australian government delegation to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) conference of parties in Bangkok in 2013 as an NGO expert.
