Lazola Sotyingwa

Animal Welfare Assistant

Lazola Sotyingwa has been involved with IFAW’s Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Cape Town for 20 years and is the clinic’s longest standing staff member. An animal welfare assistant, Lazola was 12 years old when he started following Joe Manchu, the founder of Mdzananda, around the community of Khayelitsha helping him to feed and bathe dogs. As Mdzananda grew and received funding from the International Fund of Animal Welfare, Lazola was employed by Mdzananda and has been with the clinic ever since. Lazola has been trained by volunteer veterinarians and employed veterinarians to become an integral part of the Mdzananda Animal Clinic staff team. He says that Mdzananda is like his second family - a place he cannot live without. His hope for Mdzananda is that it continues for years into the future and continues to grow and serve the enormous and wonderful community of Khayelitsha.
