L'avenir des éléphants semble s'éclaircir un peu alors que s'achève aujourd'hui le Sommet de l'IUCN sur l'éléphant d'Afrique 2013, qui s'est tenu au Botswana. En effet, les délégués ministériels présents à la conférence ont convenu de prendre des mesures urgentes pour faire cesser le braconnage et le trafic de l'ivoire.

Saving the lives of Elephants and Humans

An exercise to fit tracking collars on four elephants within the Amboseli eco system was completed in Kenya today. The GPS collars, which transmit a satellite and radio signal, map out the elephants’ migratory routes and identify how expansively the elephants travel in search of water and vegetation.

Om het gedrag van olifanten en de afstanden die ze afleggen beter te begrijpen, heeft het International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) gisteren vier olifanten uit het Amboseli National Park in Kenia uitgerust met GPS zenders. De halsbanden maken gebruik van satelliet- en radiosignalen om de locatie van de dieren door te geven.

“Rapunzel” fell 39 feet down a pipe into an underground sewage system.A kitten fell 39 feet down a pipe into an underground sewage system, but rescuer Cryss didn’t know that 24 hours before.

She had come home after vacation and heard the unmistakable sound of a kitten crying. It was very late and dark so she waited to investigate until the morning.
