Wildhüter finden einen gewilderten Elefanten. Gerade ist meine Kollegin Celine Sissler-Bienvenue aus Kamerun zurückgekommen, dort sind seit Januar über 200 Elefanten gewildert worden und das Schlachten geht immer noch weiter, sogar jetzt. Ihre Berichte erinnern mich an meine Erlebnisse als ich eine Zeit lang in Westafrika in einem Nationalpark gearbeitet hatte.

Donald Trump Jr. holds the tail of an elephant he presumably had just killed.I was horrified to see the pictures just released of Donald Trump Jr. and his brother Eric taken from an African safari the pair went on in 2010—during which time they proudly hunted and killed a number of animals including an elephant, leopard, crocodile, kudu, civet cat and waterbuck.

Big cats face big threats, here’s how the U.S. can help

Last week, a federal judge sentenced Maria Angela Plancarte and her husband, Elias Garcia Garcia, to a year and a day in prison for smuggling jaguar skins from Mexico to the U.S.  The couple, who was caught selling jaguar skins to federal undercover agents in Florida and Texas, was found guilty of violating the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA), under which jaguars are protected.  While the fate of this couple was ultimately determined by the law, the fate of some big cats remains to be determined.

VIDEO: Nach schwierigem Start machen russische Bärenjunge gute Fortschritte

Vier Bärenjunge wurden aus der Central Forest Nature Reserve in Russland in die IFAW-Rettungsstation für Bären gebracht; drei Weibchen und ein Männchen.

Touristen waren ohne Begleitung von Reservatsmitarbeitern in der geschützten Zone des Reservats spazieren gegangen.

Sie kamen zu nah an die Höhle der Bären heran, ohne es zu merken.
