IFAW campaigning for the Universal Declaration for Animal Welfare

It is shocking to consider that even now there is no global, intergovernmental recognition of the importance of animal welfare legislation. IFAW believes this must change, which is why we support the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW). The adoption of this formal declaration at the UN General Assembly would establish animal welfare on the global political agenda.

The declaration process was originally launched by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) in 2000. IFAW is part of the UDAW steering committee and is collaborating with other animal organisations in support of the Declaration.

The Declaration is an important way for governments to express their commitment to protecting animal welfare and is a vital springboard to changes in international and national policies and animal legislation. It would help strengthen enforcement of animal welfare measures and promote humane treatment of animals in every corner of the world.

All animals need our protection and respect ,can't the people of this world just DO THE RIGHT THING ,the world can't suvive without our wildlife . Everything is not about money, they have a right to live, and we have NO RIGHT to destroy and kill at our leisure ,we need them more then they need us. Please make the world a better place and PROTECT THE ANIMALS !

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man." -Gandhi

All animals are sentient beings capable of feeling intense pain and suffering. Human beings need to come together and help protect animals against all instances of cruelty. In this day and age, it is inacceptable that humans beings continue to make use of animals without paying consideration of their well-being at all. It is urgent that practices such as cruel, painful and unnecessary experiments on animals, torture, poaching, and cruelty against animals cease once and for all. It is extremely important for an enlightened world to come with a Universal Declaration for Animal Welfare. Please heed the cries of the millions of animals suffering and adopt a declaration which is far-reaching and recognise the quintessential importance of animals. Animals are in no way inferior to man, and it is high time we recognise this.

We have to start thinking about this Earth as belonging to ALL her creatures. Humans, being at the top and with the ability to make or destroy habitats, are responsible for the welfare of animals, domestic and wild. Everywhere.

I believe strongly in this initiative. There needs to be global over sight regarding animal welfare, particularly within member nations of the EU. It's about time that countries were held accountable for the flagrant abuses against animals that take place within their borders. In fact, this type of global legislation is long over due. This global animal welfare initiative must also provide provisions for the capture and prosecution of internet animal crimes, which are now an epidemic, No excuses, no exception. No country shall be exempt.

All animals should be loved and looked after, they are our responsibility and do not deserve to be treated by humans in such horrific ways that causes them suffering, fear and pain.Thank you.
