Rescuers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW - www.ifaw.org) have mobilized teams to Alexandria, Louisiana and Waveland, Mississippi to assist in animal rescue and sheltering efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac that made landfall Tuesday evening in Plaquemines Parish, LA as a category 1 storm.

EU Seal Ban comes into full effect

The General Court of the European Union (EU) today rescinded the temporary suspension of the EU regulation banning the trade in seal products. The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW – http://www.ifaw.org/) applauds the decision which allows the full implementation of this momentous legislation. The ban is a significant victory in IFAW’s 40 year campaign to end  commercial sealing.

Australia’s marine reserves proposal is overwhelmingly supported by scientists a

Tony Abbott recently revealed the Coalition’s plan to support a private member Bill that would halt the development of the current federal marine reserves proposal  claiming inadequate industry consultation.

Should this Bill succeed, it would leave proposed marine reserves in limbo and those areas covered by the proposal, around a third of Australia’s water, open to further development.

An elephant calf injured in a village, a rhino orphaned by poachers, a full-grown tiger discovered in a well and a leopard found in a house! These are four of 1,600 animals and 150 species saved in the last ten years at IFAW’s Wildlife Rescue Center in northeast, India.
