L'accroissement de l'ampleur et de la nature du commerce illégal de produits issus de la faune sauvage combiné aux tentatives inefficaces et peu élaborées d'application de la loi au Malawi ont eu des conséquences désastreuses sur la faune sauvage du pays. Le parc national de Kasungu, l'une des plus anciennes zones protégées du Malawi, a été autrefois un écosystème prospère où la faune sauvage était abondante.
