News Round-up: Deadly Pet Food, Cruelty-Free Menus and Fines for Animal Abusers

A large majority of respondents backed the idea of labeling or logos to indicate the animal welfare standards met in producing the foods they buy.

3. Animal friendly menus could be a new trend. Renowned chef Wolfgang Puck announced that he is removing cruelty from his menus: he will no longer serve foie gras, will use only eggs from hens that have lived cage-free; veal from roaming calves; and lobsters that have been removed from their ocean traps quickly to avoid crowded holding tanks.

Animal lovers in India came together over the weekend to march in protest against cruelty towards stray dogs, reports Kolkata Newsline. “Dog culling in Bangalore prompted us to come together to condemn the cruel act,” said Radhika Bose, general secretary of Animal Relief and Care Society (ARCS).

Finally, numerous animal abuse cases in the news: Dog owner in Spain fined 60 EUR in animal abuse case (first ever fine for animal abuse in the Segovia area!!), Jack Carl Schroeder of Baltimore was accused of serving a bowl of food soaked with antifreeze to his neighbor's 2-year-old beagle and Cornell senior accused of beating a dog and burning her with bleach.
