Joep is the Europe Regional Director and the Netherlands Country Director, heading up IFAW’s earliest office outside the head office and leading a team of dedicated and experienced campaigners, operations and philanthropy staff. Joep joined the IFAW team in July 2018.

Working closely with the three other country directors in Europe, they influence respective national Parliaments, Government agencies next to the European Commission ones and the business sector, Joep and his teams strives to strengthen and develop partnerships in order to deliver increased animal conservation, welfare and protection. In addition, with his specific background of over 25 years of international development in rural livelihoods and integrated small-holder livestock programs, Joep is supporting the Community Engagement programs and ensures close working across the IFAW network to enhance priority programmes and to make sure that outcomes are met.

Joep has spoken frequently on a variety of animal related issues and topics, across all major TV, Radio and Press networks both nationally and internationally, as well as at events, seminars, etc... A first newspaper Interview for IFAW was published in: Le Monde: "Consumers even don't know they are buying illegal ivory"
