Kaylyn grew up with a fascination for animals and, after stumbling into a passion for digital communications and disaster response, knew she wanted to combine all three.
After completing college, Kaylyn joined FEMA Corps, a branch within AmeriCorps, and trained extensively in crisis communications, public affairs, and the Incident Command System. She traveled the country for 10 months participating in service projects and responding to active disasters, which led her to a full-time job on FEMA’s digital team in Washington, DC. As FEMA’s social content lead, Kaylyn deployed to major disasters for months at a time to write on-the-ground stories for social, manage crisis communications across digital channels, and produce in-depth social listening reports. Following Hurricane Maria in 2017, Kaylyn spent a month in Puerto Rico helping lead and train a digital team of local hires.
Compelled by IFAW’s mission, Kaylyn joined the Digital Marketing team in 2018 where she serves as the Senior Social Content Coordinator. She plans and produces content across IFAW’s international social channels, with a focus on mission-driven storytelling to activate and engage supporters. Applying the training and skills gained at FEMA, Kaylyn has traveled with IFAW’s disaster response team, helping provide a first-person storytelling perspective from the ground.
