Responding to floods in Myanmar for first time

Work in Myanmar is a first for us.

Recently, Myanmar President Thein Sein declared ‘disaster zones’ across the country and last week sought international relief.

Myanmar is located in southeastern Asia, bordering the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, between Bangladesh and Thailand. The state-owned Kyemon Daily reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation as saying that more than 970,000 acres (392,000 hectares) of farmland, most of it rice paddy, had been damaged and more than 40,000 acres have been completely lost.

Tomorrow the IFAW-GAF team will meet with Myanmar Veterinary Association (MVA) and Ministry representatives for planning meetings in the city of Yangon.

We anticipate great needs for the animals of Myanmar and several other countries inundated with flooding…keep an eye on our work in India, Pakistan, and China as this multi-country disaster response continues.

Thank you for believing in us and sharing our mission to help animals in crisis.
