Canada votes! Will our new government Stand up for Animals?

Thank you to the thousands of Canadians who contacted their election candidates asking them to Stand Up for Animals.Well, what a night! The ballots have been counted, the election is over.  Thank you to the thousands of Canadians who contacted their election candidates asking them to Stand Up for Animals, and to the hundreds of candidates who responded.

IFAW wishes to congratulate the following animal-friendly candidates who were successfully elected in their ridings: Don Davies (NDP, Vancouver-Kingsway); Fin Donnelly – Fin Donnelly (NDP Port Moody—Coquitlam); Kirsty Duncan (Liberal, Etobicoke North); Nathaniel Erskine-Smith (Liberal, Beaches—East York);  Mark Holland (Liberal, Ajax); Peter Julian (NDP, New Westminster-Burnaby) Brian Masse (NDP, Windsor West) , Irene Mathyssen (NDP, London-Fanshawe) and Elizabeth May (Green Party, Saanich-Gulf Islands).

If you live in one of these ridings, we encourage you to send a message to your new MP and thank them for standing up for animal welfare and conservation.

Several other MPs, were not as fortunate in this election. Rick Dykstra, Hoang Mai, Peggy Nash, Megan Leslie and Paul Dewar have all pushed for stronger animal welfare protection legislation during their time on Parliament Hill, and their voices will be missed.

We would also like to congratulate Green Party candidates Claire Martin, Jackson McLean, Gord Miller  on running strong campaigns, and the Green Party of Canada’s ongoing commitment to animal protection.

IFAW will continue to work with MPs from all parties to advance policies and legislation that will protect both wild and domestic animals in Canada.
