Stars come out for Hollywood premiere of IFAW seal hunt documentary

Huntwatch LA

Last week at NeueHouse Hollywood, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) teamed up with the Discovery Channel to screen Huntwatch, the documentary film on our founding campaign against the Canadian seal hunt.

After the film, the crowd of dedicated supporters and board member James Costa, an accomplished filmmaker himself, enjoyed a Q&A with IFAW founder Brian Davies, Canada campaigns director and film subject Sheryl Fink and director Brant Backlund.

Celebrity hosts included actresses Kristin Bauer van Straten, Joely Fisher, Minka Kelly, and Heather Morris, musical artist Slash, and actor Geoff Stults.

These passionate supporters all came to IFAW through a variety of interests. Both Kristin and Joely originally came to us through our whale protection initiatives and have since become ardent elephant advocates. Minka is passionate about our big cats work and Heather Morris and Geoff Stults, our work for elephants.  And Slash is fiercely committed to our work protecting elephants, lions and other wildlife from poaching and trade.

But we are deeply grateful that all of them champion IFAW’s overall mission and work, and are using their networks to bring the story of our founding campaign to the largest global audience possible.

Many thanks as well to film producers and IFAW staff Kerry Branon, Rich Moos and Erica Martin, who also worked tirelessly to make sure this premiere was a stunning success.

As part of an Academy award qualifying run we are also screening the film for one week in New York at the Cinepolis Chelsea Oct. 14-20.

The Los Angeles Times just ran a review of the film as well.

Please stay tuned as Huntwatch will be shown in many more venues going forward, and our celebrity supporters will be sharing news of their engagement with IFAW in this blog and on their social channels.
