John Scanlon

Secretary General, Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)

John has served as the Secretary-General of CITES since 2010. He has had a unique range of experience with environment and sustainable development policy, law and governance at all levels. His work experience has been gained in the private sector, in government, with the United Nations and with international organizations, as a leader, manager, professional advisor and legal practitioner. John holds a Bachelor of Laws (1983), Master of Laws (Environmental) (1995), and is an accredited mediator (1996). He was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his service to environmental law nationally and internationally in 2011.
