IFAW Proposal Asian Big Cats

IFAW Proposal Asian Big Cats

• The document provides draft Decisions contained
in Annex 1 and proposed amendments to Resolution
Conf. 12.5 (Rev. CoP15).

• IFAW recommends the Parties to adopt the Decisions
directing the Secretariat to: invite the Senior
Experts Group of ICCWC to undertake the review of the
Annexes and liaise with relevant national representatives
of ICCWC member organizations and national
and international non-governmental organizations.
This should lead to a report that assesses progress on
implementation of the operative paragraphs of Resolution
Conf. 12.5 (Rev. CoP15) in relation to all Asian big
cats and with relevant Decisions (e.g. Decision 14.69
on tigers). The report should make recommendations
to SC64; and to convene a meeting of the CITES Tiger
Enforcement Task Force and relevant law enforcement
professionals from ICCWC to review available
intelligence on known and suspected wildlife criminals
engaged in tiger and leopard trade, with a view to facilitate
targeted national and international enforcement
operations under INTERPOL’s Project Predator.

• IFAW supports the proposed amendments to Resolution
Conf. 12.5 (Rev. CoP15) with the exception of
the proposed deletion of reporting requirements and
Annexes until such time that they are incorporated into
Resolution Conf. 11.3 (Rev. CoP15).
