Economics of Canada’s Commercial Seal Hunt - 2011 update

Rather than providing any economic benefit, Canada’s commercial seal slaughter arguably represents a drain on the country’s resources. Tens of millions of taxpayer dollars have been poured into the sealing industry over the last few decades, with very little to show for it. These resources would benefit the province in a far more effective and meaningful manner if they were directed away from a dying industry and towards transitioning sealers into new, humane professions.
