Protecting critical elephant habitats

Elephants are threatened by habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict and poaching--on average an elephant is killed every fifteen minutes for its ivory.

African Elephant numbers have decreased from approximately 550,000 to 470,000 between 2006 and 2013, according to the IUCN SSC African Elephant Specialist Group’s (AfESG) latest update of the African Elephant Database (AED).

IFAW protects critical elephant habitat, works with communities to reduce human-wildlife conflict and enhance the lives of both animals and people, and combats every link on the illegal wildlife trade chain--stopping poaching, trafficking and demand.
