Beneath Cape Cod Waves

Make waves with IFAW's new lesson plans on Cape Cod's marine biodiversity!

Cape Cod is a special place that is always changing. If you visit your favorite beach at different points in the year, you may notice some changes. Are the dunes lower? Are there more rocks? Does there seem to be more or less sand on the beach than last year? Wind, weather, and waves will always change Cape Cod. We can’t stop nature from changing the Cape, but we can take positive action to protect the animals that live on land and that live beneath the waves.

Beneath Cape Cod Waves aims to educate students about marine biodiversity, highlighting the unique characteristics of some of Cape Cod’s most interesting and important marine species and outlining some of the threats they face, as well as measures to protect them.

This curriculum provides lesson plans and activities that relate to ELA, Science and Social Studies and align with the Common Core curriculum, while preparing students to become responsible citizens, who will protect the living ocean that surrounds Cape Cod.
